CIC between 18th and 19th June 2009 held a National Convention for cooperative societies drawn from various parts of the country. The convention brought together over 700 delegates representing about 160 co-operative societies, drawn from all sectors. The convention whose theme was "Enhancing the competitiveness of Co-operatives in the global economy", was facilitated by among others, Prof. C Waruinge, Prof. Charles Mayaka, Prof. Suleiman Chambo, Mr Clement Nyandiere and Ms Catherine Ngahu. The topics covered included, Management of strategic change, Challenges and advantages in an economic downturn, Corporate governance and Increasing customer value through superior customer service.
The convention was officially opened by Hon. Joseph Nyagah, Minister for Co-operative Development and Marketing and was graced by the Assistant Minister, Hon. Linah Kilimo, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Seno Nyakenyanya and chaipersons of various National Cooperative Organizations.
